Reception Class Blog 24-25
Check out what we have been doing in class:
-
Friday 24 October 2025 Brave Bear Beginnings Reception have been very brave during their first half-term in class. They have explored sharing, turn taking and how we can be kind to each other and make new friends. We have started to develop our understanding of phonics, number and mark making which will help us become readers, writers and mathematicians. We have explored all of the different areas inside and outside of our classroom and learned how to look after our equipment.

Thursday 17 July 2025 Super-Stars! In our final half-term, Reception have had lots of fun with our “…Happily Ever After” topic. We have explored: why it is important to help others, through ‘the Little Red Hen' story; the importance of telling the truth, through ‘the Emperors New Clothes'; and how we are all different, but very special through, ‘the Ugly Duckling'.

Thursday 20 February 2025 Around the World We have been ‘Around the World’ during Spring 1, and have been learning about different cultures and traditions. From different clothes worn to traditional food eaten, we have experienced a little taste of the exotic. This topic is particularly important for Reception as so many of our children have links with other countries and we really wanted to acknowledge these links. We kicked things off by putting our names on our World Map, just so that we can see our place in the World.

Friday 20 December 2024 Run, Run, As Fast As You Can… This half-term, the Reception class has hit the ground running, learning about various celebrations and special events. The children created colourful odd socks for Anti-Bullying Week, designed their own road signs for Road Safety Week, made party hats for Rainbow Bear’s birthday party, and enjoyed celebrating Christmas Jumper Day. They also had a festive lunch and went on a trip to see ‘Wolf!’ at the Northern Stage.

Wednesday 25 September 2024 Brave Beginnings The children have gotten off to a great start in Reception and are learning to become “Brave Bears”. From visiting for a few hours a day, they are now managing full days of phonics, literacy, language & maths activities! Of course we always find time to explore their interests in their play and have lots of fun, but you better believe we are working hard. Everyday we are working towards being good listeners, kind friends, and more independent in our learning. We are off to a very positive start – maybe our next Super Learning Power will be Positive Penguins!
