Everybody learns, everybody cares

Scientific Progress

This half-term, Reception Class has been having lots of fun while learning new skills as they investigate a range of scientific phenomena!

We have explored how the weather changes and how different seasons affect the temperature and the world around us. We’ve also investigated how to make different colours by mixing water, light, and other mediums. Through our story of The Enormous Turnip, we experimented with pushing and pulling to try and move our rather heavy teacher, Mr. White!

We made predictions about whether materials would float or sink, just like the troll in The Three Billy Goats Gruff. In our final week, we were all very 'egg-cited' to see if we could defy gravity and protect a flying egg from breaking!

With the wonderful change in weather, we’ve also been planting seeds and spring bulbs, hoping that they will grow by providing them with water, sunshine, soil, air, and lots of care.

In addition to our scientific explorations, we’ve had some exciting events! We enjoyed celebrating World Book Day, where we came dressed as our favourite characters and shared stories with each other. We also had a great time creating our very own Easter bonnets, using lots of colourful materials and imagination.

A highlight of the term was when our Science Buddies visited, bringing even more fun and learning to our classroom. We also had an amazing time showing off our flipping and cooking skills on Pancake Day, trying to make the perfect pancakes!

Throughout all these activities, we’ve continued our pursuit of phonic perfection to develop our reading and writing skills. Additionally, we’ve practised a range of maths activities to increase our understanding of numbers to 10 and the bonds between them.

As every good scientist knows, you rarely get it right the first time, but by trying and trying again, you eventually find success!
