Everybody learns, everybody cares

Around the World

We have been ‘Around the World’ during Spring 1, and have been learning about different cultures and traditions. From different clothes worn to traditional food eaten, we have experienced a little taste of the exotic. This topic is particularly important for Reception as so many of our children have links with other countries and we really wanted to acknowledge these links. We kicked things off by putting our names on our World Map, just so that we can see our place in the World.

As part of our work in literacy; we created and labelled maps, which then led on to programming Beebots on a larger scale map. This really helped us to see the importance of print and noticing the finer detail to help us on our quest. Our independent writing has also really taken off this half term too, some children are writing single sounds and some children are starting to write simple sentences, either way we celebrate this bravery with medals worn in class.

Reception have also been involved in weekly ‘Little Kickers’ sessions. The sessions have been designed to develop football skills and have been absolutely wonderful. Coach James has been able to engage the children and get every single person excited about football. We have observed the children playing different games with lots of instructions and it has been amazing to see their progress. Not only are we keeping fit in Reception, but the children have now started to pay attention to their dental care. The tooth brushing scheme has provided each child with their own toothbrush and the children are now giving their teeth an extra brush after lunchtime.

Sara, from Family Learning, has been delivering a ‘Story Sacks’ course in school to some of the parents and children this half-term. The parents were able to make resources to support their child’s favourite story, from puppets to a story bag, their creativity was definitely put to the test. Sara will be running a ‘Number Sacks’ course next half-term, please do get involved if you can. More information to follow.

We have started to visit the forest area of our school weekly to take part in different outdoor activities. From bug hunting to making fashion accessories, we have been experimenting and engaging with nature.

We also celebrated Chinese New Year, Safer Internet Day, EYFS Multi-Sports Festival and NSPCC Numbers Day this half-term, it’s definitely been a busy one, but also an extremely rewarding one.
