Travelling Around
As part of our ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ topic, we have been looking at how we travel around using different methods of transport. We have been learning about cars, buses, trains, airplanes, boats, rockets and motorbikes and now have a much better understanding of how to get from one place to another!
As part of our work in literacy and communication time, we have been introduced to the signs and symbols from these methods of transport and have used these in our play. Some of us have used the phonics sounds that we have been learning to label, and caption drawings with initial sounds. We have made marks with cars and really enjoyed making marks to familiar transport songs like “The Wheels on the Bus”. We have been really focusing on recognising and trying to write our name this half term by ordering the letters, tracing and then trying it ourselves!
For maths, we have mostly been focusing on counting with 1:1 correspondence and recognising numerals for numbers 1-5 or numbers 1-10. We have been working with numbered cards, counting people on and off the bus, matching boats to numbered docks in the water tray, looking at numbered train carriages and counting down to blast off. We even counted cars when outside doing a survey of different cars that passed the school!
Again, we have been trying to get out and about in the community to build up our life skills. We have been surveying traffic at the front of school, we have been on a bus stop hunt, we walked to Gateshead Stadium metro to look out for metros and trains and we even got the change to travel on a metro which was super exciting and a great experience.
We always have a lot of fun in Class 10, but we don’t forget the serious stuff too. We have been making a big effort to improve our oral hygiene. As part of a NHS program, we have been working alongside a dental specialist who has provided us with our very own tooth brushing supplies and has taught us how to properly take care of our teeth. We now brush our teeth in school daily (as well as morning and night at home) so if you see something sparking, you can be sure it is our teeth!
