The Journey Continues
Class 8 have had yet another fantastic half term! We have enjoyed learning about different countries around the world in our topic, ‘Around the World in 80 Days’!
In maths, we have been learning about statistics. We have collected data and recorded it in pictograms and bar charts. We have even asked and answered questions about the data we collected. We have now moved on to learning about fractions. We have ordered fractions and found out that two quarters are the equivalent to a half! We have now started representing fractions of amounts in different ways.
In literacy, we have been looking at ‘Journey’ by Aaron Becker. We loved how the book had no words, but the illustrations were so clear, we were able to write the story ourselves! We have also written a recount about our recent trip to South Shields, where we investigated how different forces were used to make park equipment work.
In science we have looked at teeth and healthy living. We have created experiments where we investigated which liquids could affect our teeth. We used hard boiled eggs to represent out teeth. We were shocked to find out that vinegar and coke totally destroyed the egg shell after only 24hrs!
We have also been helping to develop our Forest School area. We took part in the school tree planting day and helped to plant almost 200 trees! We can’t wait to see how much they grow each year.
We have ended our half term with a fabulous trip to South Shields. We travelled there on the Metro, ensuring that we all followed the instructions and stayed safe. We enjoyed investigating how different forces made the equipment in the park work. We were respectful of other children and adults who were there and enjoyed an ice cream back at school as the weather was so hot!
