Springing Around the Community
As our ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ topic continued, we have been looking at different local places we like to visit. We have been looking at our homes, farms, town centres, parks and the beach. We have had an exciting time going to visit these places locally and hopefully now feel confident to visit these places with our parents too!
As part of our work in literacy and communication time, we have been introduced to the Makaton and widget signs and symbols of the places we have visited and have tried to use these in our play. We have been trying really had to start recognising our names and some of us have been trying to write it too! We have been practising clapping the syllables in our name and listening to the initial sounds we can hear in our names too.
For maths, we have been learning to count using a range of number songs. Some of our favourites are “5 Little Ducks” and “5 Little Speckled Frogs”. Our more confident counters have been thinking about 1 more and 1 less this half term too.
Our community visits have continued this half term and we have been on some exciting excursions. We have been on the metro to Gateshead to buy some new sensory and fiddle toys. We have been to a local park, where we played and enjoyed the pretty views. We have looked at different house types in the community and got the chance to chat to a local estate agent. Some of us even went to South Shields with Classes 7, 8 and 9! What great experiences we are having.
Pancake day was really exciting in Class 10. We measured, mixed, cooked and flipped our own pancakes. We enjoyed adding toppings and sauce like chocolate sauce and strawberries! We were so brave trying the pancakes as they were a new food to a few of us. Delicious!
Upping our self-care game, we are now learning to comb our hair daily as well as continuing to brush our teeth. Building these skills is really helpful as we will be using them our whole lives! I wonder what skills we should try next half term. What do you think?
On the run up to Easter, we have been getting crafty. We put so much effort in to our Spring bonnets for the Spring bonnet competition. We loved wearing them and showing them off in class. We have also made some Easter chick egg holders to take home and share with our families!
Overall, a fun, fantastic and successful half term! Well done.
