Everybody learns, everybody cares

Spring into Science!

This half term, Reception have been exploring the question “How Things Work” through a range of exciting, hands-on science experiences. The children investigated blackouts while learning about electrical circuits, explored mysterious turnip deliveries to understand forces, and experimented with ways to help eggs “fly” as part of learning about gravity. Alongside these practical investigations, they enjoyed a variety of high-quality stories and developed their scientific understanding through curiosity, discussion and experimentation.

Throughout the topic, the children have also continued to build confidence in phonics, mark making and early mathematics. They are beginning to blend letter sounds to make words, understand how words carry meaning, and explore how smaller amounts combine to make larger quantities as part of a whole. The half term ended with a special visit from the Science Buddies, where the children took part in some fun (and very messy) experiments. We hope everything is cleaned up in time for the Summer Term, and wish everyone a wonderful Easter break.
