Rogers, Rivers and Writing!
What a fantastic Summer Term we have had in Year 4! As we look back on the last seven weeks, we are proud of everything we have achieved and excited to share some of our highlights with you.
Class 4 Sum 2 26
Art
One of the highlights was our art project inspired by Charlie Rogers. We were lucky enough to work with the artist Elizabeth Kane, who taught us how to draw and paint buildings. As our skills developed, we began to feel like real artists. Our work went far beyond our own expectations and "I never dreamed that I could draw as well as this!" became a common thought among us as we admired our finished pieces. Many of us plan to spend our Summer filing the sketchbooks Elizabeth gave us. We were thrilled to receive those.
English
We are now published authors and are very proud of the story books we have created. Have you ever seen an abandoned building? Would you ever go inside, even if you had been warned not to? Well, our characters did, and they all lived to regret it! Through our stories, readers learn that it is always best to listen to your parents. We have become accomplished writers, using direct speech and exciting vocabulary to bring our stories to life.
Geography
This term, we learned about the course of a river and researched facts about the River Tyne. To bring our learning to life, we visited North Shields and crossed the Tyne on the ferry. The crossing was exhilarating and everyone loved it! We also created our own river courses on the sandy beach at the mouth of the Tyne, helping us understand how rivers flow and change on their journey to the sea.
Maths
In Maths, we focused on Year 4 shape objectives. We learned about the properties of 2D shapes, explored angles and developed our understanding of symmetry through practical activities and problem-solving challenges.
Music
Our weekly music sessions with Lizzie helped our musical skills and confidence grow. We enjoyed accompanying songs using the ukuleles and the cajón, working together as an ensemble. We ended the term by accompanying our singing of Michael Jackson's Beat It, which was a fantastic way to celebrate our progress.
PE - Tennis
Tennis has not only been taking place at Wimbledon this summer! Naz, our tennis coach, helped us develop our skills through fun games, challenges and matches. We improved our control, coordination and teamwork, and many of us discovered a real love for the sport.
As we reach the end of another successful year, we are proud of all we have achieved. We have learned new skills, challenged ourselves and created memories that will stay with us for a long time. We hope you all have a wonderful summer holiday!
