Noble Knights
We launched our new topic, castles, knights and dragons with a fantastic visit to Newcastle Keep. The children climbed hundreds of stairs to get to the top of the look out. We could see across the River Tyne, and the people looked tiny! We looked in the dungeons and the great wall was really huge. The Knight’s Armor was incredibly heavy, we all tried on a helmet.
Class 9 Sum 1 24-25
We created our own Giant’s castle in class 9 and we think it looks just like the real thing!
In drama, the children had great fun using masks to act out the story of Jack and the Beanstalk for their friends in classes 7,8&10.
In maths, we have counted in 2’s and 10’s using leaves to create a huge beanstalk. We made our own mini beanstalks and counted up to 100. We are using golden coins, jelly beans and mini eggs to secure our number bonds to 10 and beyond. We are beginning to apply our knowledge of number bonds to maths word problems, we love maths!
We decided that a Knight job was hard work ~ obeying the Nobles and protecting the King from invading enemies!
We walked to ASDA to buy ingredients for pizzas and we made shield shaped pizzas! We chose our own toppings and made one for Mr Anderson too!
We sang the song, there was a princess long ago, and acted it out too! Ellis was the handsome Prince - he managed to wake Emily from her deep sleep by breaking the spell with a kiss on her hand, but first we had to chop down the mighty forest!
We celebrated with a picnic in our own cool, shady forest!
Our LEGO challenge was to build a castle with four walls and two towers. We had to follow instructions using prepositional vocabulary… We put 3 nobles IN the courtyard and put a knight on guard ON TOP of the tall tower!
In science, we have made our own fizzy dragon eggs. We mixed secret powders together and added colours and put them in egg moulds. We think they are amazing! We could not believe our eyes watching them fizz and let off steam in water. There was a hidden surprise inside!
