Dragons, Fire & Castle Capacity
We have had a wonderful few weeks as the weather has improved and the children have produced things which they should be so proud of.
Writing
The children have written some AMAZING stories based on the book ‘Dragon Post’. We hope that the adults at home loved reading the copies the children brought for you! They worked so hard on them and enjoyed sharing the books with their friends in the library.
Reading
We have enjoyed chapter books together such as Unicorn School. We have many more of the series in class so the children can now read many more new Unicorn School adventures whenever they wish. Why not take one home to enjoy together?.
Maths
In our maths work, we’ve gone measuring mad! We’ve measured length, height, mass and volume too… with lots of new words that we had to use. We can now talk about capacity, volume, metres, centimetres and millilitres accurately and confidently too. Our speaking and listening is fantastic as we have learnt lots of new vocabulary and are able to use it to talk about our work with others.
Design Technology
We had a wonderful time with our partners designing, modelling and creating a fire engine. It needed axles, wheels and of course to look like a fire engine. It was hard work, but making a model helped us to learn what had to improve for the final product. If you remember, last half term we learnt about The Great Fire of London. Fire engines have certainly developed since 1666!
History
Castles have been a big hit in Y2 this half term! We have learned about William the Conqueror, who started building castles in England. Then we found out about different types of castle, their features and what they were like inside and outside. Finally, we made our own: check out the picture on the gallery! If you follow school’s Facebook page, you will hear some of our children explaining what the different parts of a castle are and what they were used for. Do you know about battlements, turrets, bailies, moats, curtain walls and drawbridges? Year 2 can tell you if you’d like to find out.
