Bots, Bonnets, Books & the BBC
World Book Day in Class 6
Just before the half term break, Class 6 had been filming with the BBC in order to appear as part of their Live Lesson for World Book Day! We were thrilled to see ourselves on TV alongside celebrities who were reading their favourite stories, during the 1-minute Big Read! If you want to see it, you can still view it at https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/live-lessons/articles/z33hcxs. During the day, we read our favourite stories to Class 2 and wrote tempting book recommendations to display in the library. The quality of these recommendations is incredible, and we are sure will make others want to read the books too.
Excellent Engineers
As part of our computing lessons, we enjoyed using the new VEX 123 robots! We began by learning about the different types of rovers that have been sent to Mars to study this enigmatic planet. They have taken photographs, taken weather and atmosphere readings and have been collecting soil samples since the 1960s. We became a part of the next cycle of Mars missions by coding our VEX 123 robots to collect samples at given coordinates on the game field and then deliver them to the collection site. It was brilliantly challenging and it supported us to develop critical thinking skills to solve problems in our code.
Seasonal Art and Design
We learned to create surprise art by folding the paper to allow a hidden design to be revealed from inside it. Within it, we wrote messages to our loved ones for Mother’s Day. We learned to sketch the roses by following a step by step guide and how to colour them boldly. We know you loved them! We were overjoyed to take part in the Spring Bonnet competition too. We developed our planning and designing skills to help us to deliberate on our own cohesive theme and carefully chose a colour palette.
The Royal Forestry Society
Our school is developing its new Forest School area and we took part in a huge planting effort to develop it. We were trained by a member of the Forestry Society to successfully plant the saplings and how to carefully wrap them in protective materials. We worked as a team to plant each sapling according to the carefully laid out plan and the given safety instructions. It’s wonderful to be a part of a project that will benefit those in the future at Bede.
