A Local Hero!
This half term, our History unit has been all about Grace Darling and why she was a celebrity in the north east. The children have learned all about her life and the heroic rescue she did with her dad. We retold the story through drama, making boats and mini Grace Darling puppets as props. The children then made their own Grace Darling medals to go in the RNLI Grace Darling museum in Bamburgh. Perhaps you could visit there one day? It is totally free to go!
A Bit Lost…
In Literacy, the children have loved reading A Bit Lost by Chris Haughton. We have created our own stories based on the book. The children are learning to use conjunctions: words like ‘and’ or ‘but’. They have also used some amazing adjectives to really elevate their stories. Wonderful!
Are All Animals the Same?
We have learned about lots of animals in Science, recapping some of our previous learning from the Autumn term and progressing into learning even more about animals. We learned about how to identify different types of animals by their structure and features. We now know that birds have wings, but so do some other types of animals. Birds can be identified by their feathers too! The children have done lots of sorting and reasoning about what they know about animals, helping them to discover patterns. To finish off a wonderful unit of learning, we had a trip to Bill Quay Farm, where the children could spot animals and work out what type of animals they saw. We saw lots of mammals, but we also saw some chickens and even emus which are birds! The farm even had some fish in a little pond, which was super exciting.
How many groups?
Our Maths learning has been fantastic this half term; we have learned to make groups of amounts to lead into multiplication in year 2, as well as starting to group amounts and share them, which will help us to divide in year 2.
Class 1 Sum 1 26
Sadly, we are saying goodbye to our student teacher, Miss True. She has been a fantastic addition to Class 1 and I know the children will miss her. We want to wish her the best of luck in her future endeavours and we know she will have a brilliant career ahead.
