A Curious Start to Class 4

What a great start to Year 4 we’ve had.  Everyone has come in to Mrs Colquhoun’s class with buckets full of enthusiasm and a great attitude for learning.  It’s going to be an excellent year and we can’t wait to see what the children can achieve.

The children have been thinking about their Super Learning Powers- identifying their areas of strength.  They have set themselves goals based on a Super Learning Power that they want to aim to develop this half term.  We already have plenty of Progress Pigs and times table practice and daily spelling practice has seen great results already.  It appears that lots of children are aiming for their Curious Camel award, identifying that they are going to try and ask more questions at home and at school to deepen their understanding of the subjects we are learning about this half term.

Our history lessons have certainly raised lots of questions as we are learning about another group of invaders and settlers, the Anglo-Saxons. Being Curious Camels, we wanted to find out who ruled Britain, when the Roman’s left.  Would you believe it? There wasn’t just one king, there were SEVEN of them!  Each one with their own kingdom! Our research has caused us to ask whether it was good to live in these times though, and good to be a king especially? Some Kings didn’t seem to last very long; an awful lot of them seem to have been killed – murdered even!  What were those Anglo Saxons up to and why?  Class 4’s history detectives are on the case to find out! The clues so far seem to lead us to a battle (or should we say a lot of battles) for land and power.
