Remote Learning
Remote Learning Policy
At times, we may need to implement remote learning for certain classes or groups of students. While we hope such instances are minimal, it's important to be prepared. Our goal is to ensure that all students continue their education, whether they are learning in school or at home, while maintaining the health and safety of our school community.
Online Learning Platform To support remote learning, we will primarily use Google Classrooms, in line with government guidelines. This platform allows teachers and teaching assistants to engage with students daily. If your child cannot access online learning, we can provide a physical learning pack, but we expect most students to participate online.
Daily Learning Structure In the event of a remote learning situation, work will be assigned each day, building on what students have already been learning in school. The lessons will include:
- Maths
- English
- Science/Geography/History (alternating)
- Spelling/Phonics and Maths games/activities for reinforcing key skills
Students are expected to complete and submit their work. They can do this online or by photographing their work and uploading it. Answer sheets may be provided later in the day to allow students to check their work.
Daily Online Sessions Each day will begin with a Google Meet session at 9:30am where the class will connect with their teacher and/or teaching assistant. During this 30-minute session, the teacher will take attendance, explain the day’s tasks, and sometimes provide direct teaching to certain students.
A second Google Meet session at 2:15pm will provide feedback on the day’s work and include a class story. Attendance will be recorded during both sessions, following the same requirements as in-person learning.
Attendance and Illness If your child is unwell and unable to participate in remote learning, please inform the school by phone, as usual. Otherwise, attendance at Google Meet sessions and completion of assigned work is mandatory, as remote learning is a continuation of school education.
Technology and Support We understand that technical issues may occur. If a Google Meet session cannot take place, students will still find their daily assignments on Google Classrooms with written instructions. Teachers will be available through the Google Stream function to answer questions and provide guidance.
Looking Ahead Google Classrooms will continue to be used for homework assignments and other school activities. We encourage parents to familiarize themselves with the platform and monitor their child’s progress. Login details will be provided when necessary.
Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring that remote learning is effective and engaging for all students!
